January 2008
Happy New Year! It's unbelievable to think that the Christmas holidays have come and gone already. I sincerely hope that you had a blessed Christmas.
In January, we will be covering the following in each subject:
Language Arts: In December, we finished our literature circles and will begin our second read-a-loud novel of the year, Flight 116 is Down. The students will be completing periodic reading response activities in class based on the content of the book. We will continue our work on descriptive writing also. We will be revising and editing our descriptive setting writing pieces and move onto some poetry.
Math: Early this month, we will wrap up our integers unit and begin into 2-Dimensional geometry. NOTE: Each student needs to have a geometry set as we will be using the protractor and compass every day during this unit.
History: We are completing our second history unit on British North America and will hopefully be able to work on a game board project as a final assessment. We will move on to Geography in February.
Science: Mr. Dugas will be finishing the Heat science unit and the students will have a unit test in the first few weeks of January.
French/Art: Ms. Evans and Mme. Brown continue to do an amazing job of teaching the students new skills in both Art and French. They always come up with creative, engaging projects that the students enjoy.
Physed: We will focus on basketball skills this month.
Music/Drama: In December we finished our music unit on the "Elements of Music" and students had a listening test. In January, we will focus on rhythm in music and reading notes in sheet music. During our drama periods, the class participates in improvisational activities. There will be a greater focus on drama towards third term.
Have a wonderful New Year!

December Newsletter - It's almost Christmas!
December is always a busy month and this year is no exception. See the December school calendar for the school Festive Singing times in the gym. Also, we are all anxiously awaiting the Christmas pageant that will be put on by the primary students on the 19th.
The plan for each subject in December is as follows:
Math: We are currently finishing our Measurement unit and will move on to Integers before the break.
Language: We have been studying figurative language techniques (alliteration, metaphors, onomatopoeia, etc.) and will be using them in our first descriptive writing piece this month.
History/Geography: We are currently studying the period between the 7 Years War and the War of 1812. The unit will continue into the New Year.
Science: Mr. Dugas is teaching the Heat unit and will continue in January.
Phys Ed: We are currently playing volleyball and will move on to basketball in the New Year.
French/Art: Ms. Evans and Mme. Brown continue to do an amazing job of teaching the students new skills in both Art and French.
Special Note: It was wonderful to meet the students' parents at Parent/Teacher Interviews. Thank you for taking time to take part in your child's academic growth. If you were unable to make it to the school for an interview, please feel free to contact me at the school anytime.
Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!
Welcome to October!
The Grade 7 class has gotten off to an excellent start this year. September flew by as we established new routines and quickly settled into the pace of life in the Intermediate division. The plan for each subject in October is as follows:
Math: We will be looking at Ratios and Rates, then we will transition into Data Management.
Language: In October, we will conclude Run by Eric Walters, our classroom read-a-loud, and follow it with SMARTboard presentations with "My Hero" as the theme. We will also continue our study and practice of narrative writing.
Science: Mr. Dugas continues to teach the Ecosystems unit and students will be starting design challenge projects in class.
History/Geography: We will conclude our study of New France and will begin our first Geography unit on Physical Patterns.
Phys. Ed: We will conclude our soccer unit and soon transition to volleyball.
French: The students continue to learn and master the gestures approach which helps them to internalize and more easily remember the French language.
Art: Students continue to learn and practice the Elements and Principles of Design through various art projects.
Special Notes: Thank you to all who gave so generously during our Terry Fox fundraising. Our class came 4th overall in the amount of donations received, collecting $139 for an overall school total of over $1400!
Also, thank you to those who attended the "Meet the Teacher" BBQ. It was very nice to meet some new faces and catch up with those I met last year.
Remember to check the school calendar for any upcoming events!
