CODE OF CONDUCT

The purpose of this Code of Conduct is:

·         to establish a positive school atmosphere that communicates a caring, student-centred environment in which respect for individuals and property are promoted and maintained

·         to foster open communications among students, parents, and staff.  This is a shared responsibility among all the parties involved;

·         to develop responsible students who respect themselves, other people, traditions, individual differences, cultural diversity, and the environment;

·         to promote consistent behavioural expectations and consequences;

·         to promote a safe learning environment free from intimidation, bullying, and harassment;

·         to promote responsible, non-violent behaviour.

 

EXPECTATIONS

Students are expected to:

·         show respect for people and property;

·         settle disagreements in a non-violent, reasonable manner;

·         keep their hands and feet to themselves;

·         refrain from using abusive language or offensive gestures;

·         follow the rules for safe and proper behaviour on the bus;

·         follow the “Rules Governing Acceptable Use of Computers”;

·         follow the “Lambton Kent Smoke Free Environment Policy”;

·         refrain from bringing prohibited items onto school property;

·         be punctual and ready to work with the appropriate materials each day;

·         complete all assignments to the best of their ability within the time allotted;

·         move through the halls and around the school in a quiet, orderly manner;

·         participate in all activities in an orderly, sensible, safe, and respectful manner;

·         avoid vandalism and horseplay in washroom facilities;

·         refrain from bullying or harassing fellow students and staff.

 

INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR

Bullying is verbal or physical behaviour by one or more people who appears to be stronger in some way than their victim.  Bullying makes victims feel uncomfortable, embarrassed, unsafe and can interfere with the victim’s success at school.

 

Harrassment is an inappropriate, physical, sexual or verbal behaviour directed at any member of the school community.  This also includes any behaviour that causes any person to fear for his or her safety.  Sexual harassment includes any inappropriate remarks or acts of a sexual nature.
