The Ontario Principals’ Council donates the
Principal’s Award for Student Leadership annually. This award is presented to a Grade 8 student who acts in a
responsible, independent manner and demonstrates strong leadership skills
throughout the school.
ARTS AWARD
Bill and Dianne Tennyson presented the Arts Award to
Brigden Public School in June 2002. The
recipient of the Arts Award has demonstrated high ability, creativity,
enthusiasm, and dedication in one of the following Arts: Music, Drama, or Visual Arts.
VALEDICTORIAN
The valedictorian must have a consistent Level 4
achievement during his/her Grade 8 year.
By democratic process, the graduating class will select a
valedictorian. A former Principal, Mr.
A. Pole, donates this award.
F.S.L. AWARD
The French Award is given to a Grade 8 student who has demonstrated a high level of achievement and effort, in addition to a cooperative attitude.
ATHLETIC AWARDS
An award is given to a Grade
8 boy and girl each year who accumulates the highest number of points for the
sports that they participate in. Their
coach/coaches rate them on a scale of one through six in each sport. A rating of six will be given to the top
player, five to the second, etc. The
students with the most points from all sports combined win this award.
CITIZENSHIP AWARDS
The citizenship awards (Charlene Boyle Memorial
Awards) are given in memory of Charlene Boyle, who was a former student at
Brigden Public School. One Grade 8 boy
and girl will receive the award based on the following criteria: effort put forth in academic subjects,
personal attributes and sports involvement.
This award was donated to the school by two former teachers, Mr. T.
Gravelle and Mr. N. McIntosh.
GENERAL PROFICIENCY AWARD(S)
The General Proficiency
Award was presented to Brigden Public School in June 1980 by Don and Teresa
Young to acknowledge those who take on the challenges of life and succeed. This award will be presented to a student or
students who receive a consistent Level 4 in all subject areas.
Students who achieve a
consistent Level 4 for the year in individual subject areas will be awarded a
certificate. The certificate will list
the subject areas of Level 4 achievement.
MOST IMPROVED STUDENT AWARDS
The most improved student
award is presented to both a boy and a girl at the end of Grade 8. The award is based on the recipients
displaying increased commitment and responsibility for their learning during
the Intermediate Division. The award
presented to the boy is known as the “Matt White Memorial Award” in memory of
Matt White, a former student at Brigden Public. The award presented to the girl was donated by a former student,
Mrs. J. DeGurse.
PRIMARY ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
The Primary Achievement Award is donated each year
by Mrs. M. Alexander, a former teacher.
This award is presented to a boy and a girl at the end of the primary
division. The winners are selected
using the following criteria: high
academic standing, leadership qualities and good citizenship.
JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
The Junior Achievement Award is donated each year by Mrs. B. Lester, a former teacher. This award is presented to a boy and a girl at the end of the junior division. The winners are selected using the following criteria: high academic standing, involvement in extra-curricular activities, leadership qualities and good citizenship.
