Laidlaw Transit Ltd. has the busing responsibilities for Brigden Public School. Laidlaw may be contacted at 336-0077. It is a shared concern of the Lambton Kent District School Board, the school administration, the teachers, the bus contractor, and the bus drivers that our students travel in safety during their trips to and from school. One factor remains a potential hazard to our students—the collective behaviour of the passengers. Therefore, success in providing the safest bus ride for all students requires each student follow the guidelines for conduct on the bus and exercise self-control while on the bus.
BUS STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO:
1.
Be
at their bus pick-up point prior to bus arrival time.
2.
Proceed
directly to their seat on the bus and remain seated for the duration of their
trip.
3.
Comply
with all instructions from the bus driver.
4. Act in a courteous manner and abide by the Code of
Conduct.
5. Refrain from opening and closing windows, unless
authorized by the driver.
6. Ensure that nothing protrudes, at anytime, from the
window.
7. Respect the bus equipment (students will be held
responsible and charged for damages to the vehicle).
8. Refrain from littering or throwing anything from the bus.
9.
Avoid
conversation with, or distraction of, the bus driver while the vehicle is in
operation, unless absolutely necessary.
10. Refrain from eating or drinking on the bus.
The bus driver is in charge at all times while
students are on the bus. This includes
field trips, as well as regular home to school transportation. At times, a video camera may be used to
monitor behaviour on a bus. Any
problems are referred by the bus driver to the Principal for disciplinary
action. Failure to comply with the
above rules could result in suspension of bus privileges. Drivers will report to the Principal, in
writing, any student who fails to behave in a safe and responsible manner. The Principal will discuss the incident with
the student and record the details.
Parents will be notified if their child’s inappropriate behaviour
persists on the bus. This could result
in a student losing his/her bus riding privileges. With everyone’s cooperation, our buses can continue to operate
safely with no one losing their privileges.
Bus students are not allowed to ride any bus other than their designated bus. Walkers are not allowed to ride buses. Any changes to a student’s regular bus schedule must be reported to the office in writing or via a phone contact to a staff member e.g. a student is staying after school or being picked up and will not be riding the bus home. Please do not leave bus changes for students on the telephone’s answering machine. Talk to a staff member directly.
